DOCUMENTARY PACKAGE PITCH
The first deliverable is a short documentary between 5-15 minutes. Knowing what story to tell before filming a documentary can be intimidating. Sometimes, you know exactly what story it is you want to tell. Who the subjects are. Where it will take place. Other times, you know almost nothing. No matter what you think you know going into it, there’s always a discovery process. God always surprises me along the way. He guides me through my eye for subject and story to continue digging and digging until the beautiful treasure is found beneath.
II. SOCIAL VIDEOS
(Still to be edited 30 second instagram reels inserted here)
Once the documentary is complete, we need to help it find its audience. A handful of 30 second vertical videos are made from the contents of the documentary. Think of these as a kind of trailer. They give you a brief glimpse of the full story just enough to hook you and lead you to search for the full piece. Once posted online, these videos can effectively reach an eager audience.
III. SUPPLEMENTARY SOCIAL PIECES
Maybe a third thing here? I was thinking maybe like a still from the doc with a quote next to it or something.
“Without beauty, truth and goodness lie flat and they were not meant to. They were meant to be adorned. They were meant to be attractive.”
-Russ Ramsey, Rembrandt is in the Wind
DELIVERABLES
I. SHORT DOCUMENTARY
For the past year, I have served overseas in Chiang Mai, Thailand as an artist missionary for Friends Network. My goal as an artist missionary is to use my gifts as a filmmaker to tell stories of how the gospel is working in Southeast Asia, as well as build community and meaningful friendships. So far, I have produced four short documentaries. (3 in Thailand, 1 in the Philippines.)
Being a Lutheran filmmaker is something I’ve prayed for since I was 14. God has answered those prayers, and is now using my gifts for his ministry. Because I recognize this, I strive for excellence, telling the stories I’m called to tell authentically and beautifully. I bring my distinct taste and visual style to every project I work on while still framing my subjects honestly. Whether the audience is large or small, my standards for quality don’t change.
The past four projects I’ve shot have been used by various other Lutheran-based organizations to share their stories with new audiences. I hope to grow my reach to share my gifts with more organizations and communities.
An organization’s need for photo and video to tell stories is undeniable. In the age of social media, Instagram and Facebook are how people stumble upon the wonderful stories happening around the globe. High quality, beautifully produced documentaries and short videos are being shared everyday for secular brands and companies. I want to create work of that quality for Lutheran organizations. Due to rapidly changing technology and lack of large number of Lutheran filmmakers, there’s a massive need in our synod. I’m here to contribute. Here I am, Lord. Send me.
Below is an example package of what I produced this last year for Thai Village Inc:
